10 Basketball Fundraiser Ideas That Work

We run the Slice the Price Card, a Domino’s pizza card fundraiser, so of course it’s #1 on our list! All 10 ideas are proven favorites. Basketball teams have relied on them for years. Most teams fit a few of them around the game schedule.

  1. Slice the Price Card sale. Each player shares a personal link. Supporters buy a $20 Domino’s card that gives a free large pizza with the purchase of a large at participating Domino’s. Your team keeps $10 of every card. There is no upfront cost and nothing to store. The sale runs two weeks, so it fits between holiday tournaments.
  2. Free-throw-a-thon. Supporters pledge an amount for every free throw a player makes out of 100, or give a flat donation. It costs nothing to run: you already have the gym, the balls, and the players.
  3. Three-point contest. Charge an entry fee for parents, alumni, and community members to see who can hit the most threes in 60 seconds. Run it at halftime of a home game or as its own evening event.
  4. Youth skills clinic. Your players coach younger kids through a morning of drills for a small registration fee. It raises money and can build your future roster at the same time.
  5. Home-game concessions. Home games bring the same hungry families to the gym week after week. Assign parents to shifts and keep the menu short: drinks, candy, popcorn, and pizza.
  6. Half-court shot challenge. Fans pay for a chance to sink a half-court shot at halftime for a prize donated by a local business. Setup takes minutes, and crowds tend to enjoy it.
  7. Alumni game. Invite former players back to take on the current team and charge admission. Pair it with a bake sale or a raffle.
  8. 50/50 raffle. Sell tickets at every home game; the winner takes half the pot and the team keeps the rest. Raffles are regulated in some states, so check the rules before you sell a ticket.
  9. Spirit wear. Team shirts, hoodies, and shooting shirts for players, parents, and fans. Collect sizes and payment up front so nothing is left over.
  10. Gym banner sponsorships. Local businesses pay to hang a banner in the gym for the season. A one-page sponsor sheet and a few chats can cover a tournament fee.

Here’s why we think you’ll love the Slice the Price Card fundraiser!

How the Slice the Price Card program works

The Slice the Price Card is a Domino’s Pizza fundraiser. It has helped groups raise money since 1999. Your supporters buy a $20 card, and the card sells itself. It gets them a free large pizza when they buy a large pizza at menu price. It works at participating Domino’s stores until the card expires.

  • Zero upfront cost. There is no cost to your group, ever, no minimum order, and no leftover inventory, because cards are only sent out once they are sold. The program is risk-free.
  • 50% profit. Cards sell for $20 and your group keeps $10 of every card sold.
  • Sell online, on paper, or both. We set up a free online store. Supporters can buy from anywhere, and we ship the cards to them. You can also use printed order forms. Groups that use both usually sell more cards than groups that only sell online.
  • Runs two weeks. A short sale keeps everyone focused. We find it gets the best results.
  • A specialist helps the whole way. Your Fundraising Specialist sets it up with you. They send your materials and check in with you.
  • Free prize programs. You can add prize and T-shirt programs that reward sellers. They work great for schools and younger sellers.

Cards are good for 6 months to 1 year, based on when your fundraiser starts. The expiration date is printed on every card.

Why it’s perfect for basketball teams

Mid-season timing. Basketball costs hit in the middle of the school year, not the summer. Holiday tournaments, shootouts, and travel brackets all have entry fees due mid-season. A two-week sale in late fall or early winter pays for them during the season.

Built-in selling window. A basketball roster is small, usually 10 to 15 players, but you have a built-in selling window. Home games put your families in the gym twice a week. A $20 buy-one-get-one pizza card is an easy sell to a crowd that is already there to support the team.

Pizza is team fuel. Bus rides home, film sessions, and team dinners almost always end in pizza. A buy-one-get-one card is genuinely useful to your own families, not just the people they sell to.

Easy for a coach to run. You pay nothing upfront, and there is no equipment to store. The live dashboard tracks every player’s sales. A coach can check progress between practices and keep the short roster motivated for both weeks.

What your group can earn

Your group keeps $10 for every $20 card sold — a full 50% profit with no upfront cost. There is no minimum and no maximum number of cards.

The math is simple:

Participants × Cards per participant × $10 = Your profit

10 participants selling 15 cards each

$1,500

25 participants selling 15 cards each

$3,750

50 participants selling 20 cards each

$10,000

100 participants selling 20 cards each

$20,000

Most groups raise around $1,500. Larger or highly motivated groups have raised $10,000+. Our largest fundraiser raised about $21,450. A fundraiser needs at least 5 participants. These numbers are only a guide for setting goals. Real results depend on how many people sell and how hard they work.
